Pearly's Back Home!

SEGA hound KB's Pearl Eyes, now known as Pearl, got out of her fence New Year's Day, (Tuesday).

Yesterday (Sunday), after days of searching, Pearl was found.  She was in eyesight of the search party volunteers, but she was too scared to come to them.

A volunteer called Pearl's Dad, Chris, an Atlanta police officer.  He came right away, knelt down and called her, and now Pearly is back home!

All past and future photos will suffer in comparison to this one.  It is the sweetest photo I've ever seen.

Why? Oh, WHY!?

If any of you know why Blogger will not allow me to upload photos to the blog, either from my computer or from Picasa, please let me know.  Gah!

Happy New Year!

Those Brindle Kids endured the New Year's Eve celebration.  We didn't take them to the big party downtown because Truly gets very anxious when he hears any noise he thinks is thunder.

We had fun watching the ball drop on TV.  Even though we were at home, the fireworks, guns, firecrackers, etc., still caused Truly to be nervous.  Maggie usually reacts sympathetically to Truly so she was anxious, too.  Fortunately, Walker, the dog who is anxious by nature, wasn't bothered at all by the booms, pops and cracks from the celebration.  Go figure.

This morning, all the dogs wanted to sleep late.  They didn't come downstairs with me as they usually do.  I got them all to wake up by asking if they wanted "to go outside?"  They said, "Yes!"

Once outside, Walker and Maggie had a game of chase.  Walker is in front with Maggie at his heels.
The huffing and puffing you hear is Walker.  He sounds like a freight train when he's running.

Notice Truly is not to be seen?  That's because my mild-manned gentleman doesn't like too much running in his backyard.  He steps up to put a stop to the madness --  sometimes with too much authority.  I let him go back in the house before the races begin.

Later this afternoon, I came into the living room and found Truly and Walker in similar poses in front of the fireplace with Maggie staring them down.  She wanted someone to get up and give her a fluffy bed.  She was holding Sock Monkey hostage until she got what she wanted.  It didn't work.

It was fun to spend the first day of 2013 with Tim, Sawyer and Those Brindle Kids.  Back to work and school tomorrow.  The dogs will probably be happy for the peace and quiet.    :)

Commandments

TEN CANINE COMMANDMENTS

Truly, Maggie and Walker were perusing Pinterest and came across this.  They told me they endorse the canine commandments.  They changed a few things but it's pretty much intact:
  1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.  Remember that before you buy/adopt me.
  2. Give me time to understand what you want from me.
  3. Place your trust in me.  It's crucial to my well-being.
  4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. After all, you have your job, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you.
  5. Speak to me often. Even if I don’t understand your words, I understand your tone of voice.  I love it when your tone is happy!
  6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it.
  7. Don’t hit me. Remember, I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.
  8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative or obstinate, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I’ve been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak.
  9. Take care of me when I get old.  You will grow old, too.
  10. When I am old, or when I no longer enjoy good health, please do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having fun. Just see to it that my trusting life is taken gently. And be with me on that difficult journey when it’s time to say goodbye. Never say, “I just can’t bear to watch.” Everything is easier for me when you are there.
Remember that I love you.
